actually includes more addresses outside of the city than inside of it. Delivery areas have ZIP codes 22301 through 22312, 22314, and 22315, with other ZIP codes in use for

ANNANDALE, VA, Homes, Real Estate and Community Free MLS Listings Search for Annandale Homes [CLICK HERE]
Annandale, VA is located, predominantly just inside (east) the I-495 Beltway and bordered by Falls Church City prior to reaching Arlington Boulevard (Route 50) on the North and Braddock Road to the South. While many think of Annandale as just another great location, the history of Annandale Virginia is surprising, even to most of the life-long residents. Thanks to more than 11 years of research by Annandale resident and Businesswoman Audrey Capone (the great Capone Music Store, for those who remember) we have a wonderul recounting of the history of Annandale. What was the importance of Little Rive Trunpike (completed in 1806)? What about Columbia Pike (completetd in 1808)? Clue: it is not just a road to Bailey's Crossroads. . . How come the names like "Ravensworth," "Fitzhugh," "Moss" and "Garges" seem to be everywhere? [Did you know that Ravensworth was the "single largest parcel of land granted (by the Crown of England) in all of Virginia?"] Please take a few moments to read Mrs. Capone's Summary and if you're as intrigued as we were, buy her book: Fitzhugh's Ravensworth: The Early History of Annandale Virginia.

Return to Communities List FAIRFAX, VA (City) Homes, Real Estate and Community Free MLS Listings Search for Fairfax City Homes [CLICK HERE] The real estate and property that Fairfax City now encompasses was settled in the early 1700s by farmers from Virginia's Tidewater region. The Fairfax County courthouse was established at the corner of Old Little River Turnpike (now Main Street) and Ox Road (now Chain Bridge Road). The small town in the vicinity of the courthouse was then known as Earp's Corner, and in 1805 was designated the Town of Providence by an act of the Virginia General Assembly (although people continued to informally refer to it as Fairfax Court House).
The town was officially renamed the Town of Fairfax in 1874, and became an independent city in 1961, upon which it acquired its current name, the City of Fairfax.
One of the many historic landmarks in Fairfax City is The Gunnell House, now located on the grounds of Truro Church. It was in this house that Ranger John Mosby captured the Union area commander General Edwin H. Stoughton, in bed, the night of March 9, 1863. Mosby awoke the general with a slap. "Get up, general, and come with me." Gen. Stoughton roared, "What is this? Do you know who I am?" Said Mosby: "Sir "I reckon I do, general . . . but did you ever hear of Mosby?" "Yes! (said the General, with some high expectation) . . . have you caught him?" "No" said Mosby, "but "He" has caught you!" That night Mosby also captured 2 officers, 30 soldiers, and 58 horses. Upon hearing of this event, President Lincoln disgustedly remarked that he could create another general with the stroke of a pen, but he "surely hated to lose those horses." Fairfax City is centrally located in the middle of Fairfax County and is served by major East/West highways including Arlington Boulevard/Route 50 (recently renamed Fairfax Boulevard within the city limits), Route 236/Main Street (also Duke Street in Alexandria and Little River Turnpike in Annandale), Braddock Road and I-66. Major North/South arteries include Pickett Road (becomes Blake Lane toward Vienna & Oakton), Route 123 Chain Bridge Road which connects Prince William County at the Occoquan River to the south and Washington DC at the Potomac River. In addition to Fairfax City's treasury of historical sites, today's Fairfax City has a wealth of cultural activities and events available to everyone. Created in 1979 Fairfax' Commission on the Arts offers numerous events throughout the year. Be sure to visit the Fairfax Art League's Gallery at the corner of Main Street and Univerity Drive, in the heart of the historic district. There are also numerous musical events presented by the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra (including Master Classes) as well as the City of Fairfax Band. The Center for Fine Arts at George Mason University offers a wide array of musical and theatrical performances.
